TomboFry

I've been making chiptune music for close to 15 years. I stuck with it for the longest time because it was the first style of music I actually started to get good at, and slowly started gaining an audience on YouTube for my covers and original music.

Even though I still really enjoy making song covers as chiptunes, I now feel quite limited in what I can make in that style that I haven't already tried. I released FOURTEEN albums of original chiptune music between 2013 and 2020 (and in 2016 releasing five in one year!), and it feels like there's nothing else I can do creatively in that space.

Leading up to the release of Floating Amongst the Stars, I've been absolutely loving making music with my piano, guitar, software synths, and my voice. I'm inspired by a lot of genres, and I'm excited to see what I come up with in the future!

Why the change, and what's going to happen

Okay, so I should actually explain why the change is happening. The name "TomboFry" is conveniently made using my real name, and for pretty gay reasons I no longer want to be associated with that. That's the sole reason it's changing.

Going forwards, I'm going to release music as moonfloof. It's going to take a while but I'll slowly change all my domain names and usernames over wherever I can. Eventually, all the links on the sidebar will stop working, and the domain name will expire. It'll be a sad but necessary day.

All my old music will still be available on Bandcamp, YouTube, and streaming services as "TomboFry", and you can still get CDs while they're in stock (they definitely are, please buy a CD), I just won't be releasing any new music under this name.

Before I abandon the name for good, I am mentally preparing myself to collect up all my previous chiptune covers released on YouTube over the years, remaster them all and package them together somehow, and release them all officially on streaming services as a final thank you and goodbye. I might have more original unreleased chiptune music which'll make its way over as a TomboFry release too, but that'll be more like a "The Lost Tapes, Volume II" kinda dealio.
